Taekwondo is a Korean martial art that traces its roots back thousands of years and, in its modern incarnation, combines traditional Korean martial arts with various other arts from surrounding areas. Modern taekwondo came into existence a little over half a century ago, and since then it has become one of the most popular martial arts in the world. Taekwondo is particularly renowned for its fluid footwork and explosive kicks. Because of its immense popularity, taekwondo has been an official Olympic sport since the 2000 Sydney games.
Michigan Taekwondo Club is a student-run club sport under the Rec Sports department. In Club you will learn the same basics that are taught in Class, but the sport and athletic aspects of taekwondo are also emphasized. Club is a good choice for students interested in getting a great physical workout while learning and refining the fundamentals of taekwondo. The club competes actively in regional and collegiate tournaments. Club is open to all levels from beginner to advanced. Club dues are either $80 for 1 semester or $120 for 2 semesters.
