[edit] Project Description

The Annual Giving Metrics Dashboard is an automated Excel file released on a monthly basis, which consolidates multi-format data into a user-friendly dashboard. The end product charts and measures Key Performance Indicators for the University and 21 individual academic units. Unit representatives from the Central Annual Giving development office use the Dashboard for strategic planning, as well as to gauge monthly fundraising performance for the academic units.

The Dashboard replaced various paper reports with electronic data consolidated into a user friendly visual report. It measures Key Performance Indicators such as donor participation with a current and historical perspective, and it enables the U-M development community to understand and communicate current market conditions more effectively.

[edit] Duration/Timeline

Total team effort was nearly 400 work hours with a timeline of approximately nine months. Business analysts in the Office of Development spent 150+ hours writing code, cleansing and modifying data, error-checking, and building the actual Dashboard file. The Central Annual Giving office spent 60+ hours identifying Key Performance Indicators, identifying best practices, working with academic units to determine needs, and creating mockups of the dashboard to determine the desired look and feel. Michigan Administrative Information Services (MAIS) team members spent 150+ hours creating data tables and programming the database to enable electronic production of previously "paper only"' reports.
