Edward Tufte is a well respect data visualization expert and author of four books on the subject. His first book, The Visual Display of Quantitative Information, is considered one of the most important and influential text on the topic of data and information visualization.

Stephen Few is a well respected data visualization expert who has applied the principles of Tufte and others specifically to business problems. He has written two books on the subject. His book Information Dashboard Design is very influential among dashboard designers.

Ben Fry is the co-creator of Processing software package and author of the book Visualizing Data.

Many Eyes is an IBM research project dealing with collaborative data visualization.

Martin Wattenberg is one of the creators of Many Eyes. He is also the creator of one of the first treemap applications, Map of the Market.
Fernanda Viegas is one of the creators of Many Eyes.

Tableau Software is a best-in-class commercial visual analysis software package.

Processing is a free software package for sketching up interactive, dynamic information experiences.

Processing.js is a version of processing that uses JavaScript and therefore does not require Flash or Java applets.

R is an open source statistical analysis and visualization package.

Tables to Graphs is a project for demonstrating graphical alternatives to tables dealing with social science data.

Excel add-ins can ameliorate the often limited, but ubiquitous, graphing capabilities of Excel.

Microcharts is a commercial add-in for MS Office and SSRS 2005 and SSRS 2008.
Sparklines for Excel is a free template for Excel 2007 and add-in for Excel 2003
NodeXL is a free Excel 2007 add-in for creating network diagrams.
