[edit] Project Description
The Psychology Department Information System (PDIS) combines data from several central and local resources and simplifies the task of generating reports by providing seamless access to the data.
There were no solutions, internal or external to the University, to meet the department’s requirements. The department chose to create its own solution, referred to as the Psychology Department Information System (PDIS).
[edit] Business Need
- Enable each administrative office to manage the information directly pertaining to its responsibility
- Share information from each administrative office across the department
- Pull information from units outside the department as needed
- Aggregate data quickly and easily to generate canned or ad hoc reports
- Support better and more informed decisions
[edit] System/Application & Data Sources
PDIS takes central and local data from several sources, such as M-Pathways, Prism, and local systems and files – both paper and electronic.
[edit] Project Purpose, Scope, & Deliverables
- Combine data from various local and central resources to simplify the generation of management information.
- Standardize data management practices across the department.
- Support users with varying levels of knowledge and experience.
- Eliminate data redundancy across administrative offices
- Create consistency for data metrics and granularity.
[edit] Duration/Timeline
The PDIS Steering Committee began developing the system in 2002, and it is now in use in the LSA Psychology Department. Its success has changed conversations on campus of what is possible in terms of managing operations in academic units. Because of the interest of other units in the PDIS solution, a campus-wide team is exploring the possibility of developing a similar tool with a campus-wide application.
