[edit] Project Description
The need for a more detailed means of tracking individual expenditures and budget for specific grants, which was identified by Larry Atherton, led Richard Griswold to develop a new query and modify an existing query, which together, satisfy this need. Atherton is a laboratory/classroom services supervisor in U-M Flint Biology Department, and Griswold is a senior accountant in U-M Flint, Financial Services & Budget.

- Improve departments’ ability to monitor of grant expenditures and balances.
- Coordinate the information about expenditures and budgets for individual grants.
- Streamline the financial oversight process to make it less time-consuming and less cumbersome.
- Increase pursuit of external funding without increasing financial support staff.

This work involved the development of the Project /Grant Balance Query and modification of the Project Grant Activity Query.
[edit] Project Purpose, Scope, & Deliverables
- Provide detailed financial monitoring of grants to ensure that expenditures are accurately charged to the correct grant.
- Reduce the likelihood of overspending on grants
- Provide an efficient method of managing financial aspects of grants including monitoring expenditures against budgets.
