Database Usage Guidelines

The license agreements signed by the Kresge Library for the resources it provides to Ross School of Business students typically do not permit the resources to be shared with companies. (Our vendors’ potential customer base includes not only the Library but also many of the firms you will be working with.) To help you during MAP, please follow these guidelines when working with Kresge Library resources and your MAP team. If you have a question about a specific article/resource please contact your librarian for clarification.

1. Journal/Trade magazine articles may be provided in full text to the company from the following:

  • ABI/Inform Global (ProQuest)
  • Business & Company Resource Center
  • Business Source Complete (EBSCO)
  • Factiva

2. Output from these databases may not be used where output is given to or ultimately benefits companies:

  • LexisNexis Academic
  • Standard & Poor's NetAdvantage
  • WRDS

3. Documents such as marketing reports may not be provided as a complete document to the company. You are permitted to incorporate portions of the content from these sources (with proper acknowledgement of the source) into your reports/presentations:

  • Global Market Information Database (GMID)
  • IBISWorld
  • ISI Emerging Markets
  • MarketLine Business Information Center
  • MarketResearch.com Academic
  • Mintel
  • Plunkett Research Online

4. Full text articles and similar highly specialized research content from these resources may not be provided to your company. You are permitted to quote and incorporate portions of this content into your report/presentation but providing full text documents will violate the terms of the use agreements with these information providers:

  • Forrester
  • Gartner
  • Medical & Healthcare Marketplace Guide

5. Frost & Sullivan (F&S)

  • The reports are only to be used by MAP students in completing their MAP assignments and are not for personal use.
  • You may provide one full text F&S report to your company. This report is NOT to be shared/distributed beyond the participating firm.
  • You may incorporate/share the content of other F&S reports into your report/presentation with proper acknowledgement of the source.
  • Once the MAP project is complete, team members are not to retain or redistribute any copies of the F&S reports.
  • F&S reports may be incorporated into the MAP team final report and retained as supporting documentation for next year’s project.
