[edit] Wind Energy Basics

The US Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy has a section of the site devoted to the Wind and Hydropower Technologies Program. The site includes links to government funded research in wind energy (in the Programs section), information on current technologies used in wind power, and links to their DOE's two key deployment activities aimed at identifying and addressing barriers to wind technology include Wind Powering America and the Federal Wind Siting Information Center.

The DOE also supports the Renewable Resource Data Center which has a section devoted to Wind Energy. Many of the links are to the National Renewable Energy Laboratory's Wind Energy Research section. The site discusses the support NREL can provide to the wind industry to develop advanced wind energy systems, much of which is in the form of data and research. Publications include full text reports in the areas of Wind Turbine Research & Development, Wind Energy Technologies, and Wind Issues. The NREL also maintains a Avian Literature Database which contains research on wind projects affect on bird populations.

A variety of state wind resource maps are available, including installed wind capacity from 1999-present. International wind resource maps are also available. More wind data is available from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the Wind Energy Resource Atlas of the United States.

[edit] Capacity and Market Information

Alternative Energy eTrack is a database that provides statistics and market information on a wide range of renewable energy technologies on a global scale. In the "Databases" section you will find information by country on capacity and generation, markets, products, contracts and wind farm locations around the world. Also available are company profiles of companies involved in manufacturing products for wind energy, M&A information and industry reports.

[edit] Associations and Industry Groups

Utility Wind Energy Group provides background information on the wind energy Industry in the United States.

The American Wind Energy Association also has some information on their web site in the Publications and Resources sections. There is a quick fact sheet listing the top 20 US states for wind energy potential.

Utility Wind Integration Group (UWIG). A summary table detailing markets and market rules for wind energy and capacity in North America is available.

[edit] State Programs

Iowa Alliance for Wind Innovation and Novel Development site has resources on programs being developed in Iowa and the state Universities there. The site also includes links to general resources on wind energy.
