[edit] Abstract
This project strives to develop combustion strategies engines that produce low levels of engine out emissions while maintaining an acceptable engine efficiency. Tight control over engine conditions allows for detailed investigation into combustion behavior. Additionally, this engine test platform allows for precise testing of catalyst aftertreatment systems in conjunction with newly developed combustion strategies.

A contributing member of the General Motors Collaborative Research Laboratories - Engine Systems Research (GMCRL-ESR), the Clean Diesel Technology Single Cylinder Test Cell is used to investigate fundamental combustion behavior with the end goal of developing emissions compliant diesel engines.
[edit] Description of Work
The specific research task for this test cell is to investigate different fuels with a specific set of properties to ascertain their effect on newly developed combustion strategies and different aftertreatment systems. Included in the fuels to be tested are diesel fuel alternatives that may become mainstream fuels in the future: Fischer-Tropsch synthetic fuels, biodiesel blends, and JP8.
