East Chicago, Indiana

Built: 1926

This 50 foot tall, concrete tower sits at the end of a 1,200 foot breakwater, which extends at a nearly right angle from the end of a 2,000 foot pier. It was built to guide ships transporting goods for the cement plants in and out of Buffington Harbor. It is located along the southern shore of Lake Michigan, some 26 miles from Chicago. It can best be seen by boat or plane, but can also be seen from the top floor of the Majestic Casino parking garage.
