Tacoma, Washington

Built: 1933

Automated: 1963

This 34 foot tall square concrete, Art Deco tower marks the eastern entrance to Commencement Bay, Tacoma's harbor. It replaced the original 1887 "post light" and subsequent 1903 two-story wooden structure which housed a slide-out lantern and a fog bell. The lighthouse grounds are now a public park and the buildings maintained in a partnership between the Metropolitan Park District of Tacoma and the Points Northeast Historical Society.
