Calumet Harbor Light in 1992
Calumet Harbor Light in 1992

Calumet, Illinois

Built: 1904

This light was the fourth one at Calumet, the three previous ones having been built in 1851, 1873 and 1876. This light sat on a 7,000-foot-long breakwater stretching out into Lake Michigan's Calumet Harbor south of downtown Chicago, Illinois. The breakwater is so long that the lighthouse was technically in Indiana. The lighthouse shown here has been demolished and no longer exists. It has been replaced by a light on top of a steel cylinder.
