Bodie Island Light in 1993

Oregon Inlet, North Carolina

Built: 1872

This is the third light built at this site just north of Oregon Inlet, the first falling into disrepair due to poor construction and the second being destroyed by the Confederate army during the Civil War. The tall, slim tower bears day markings of broad alternate black and white circular bands. The old keeper's quarters has been converted into a visitors' center and natural history museum, and is part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore.
