Solomons, Maryland

Built: 1883

Automated: 1960

Decommissioned: 1962

This hexagonal, wooden keeper's dwelling has an octagonal lantern on top of it. The entire building is 47-feet tall. It was moved in 1975 from Drum Point, about 2 miles east of its present location, to the grounds of the Calvert Marine Museum. This is only one of three remaining screwpiles from forty-five that once served the Chesapeake Bay at the beginning of the twentieth century.
