Shoal Island, Ontario

Built: 1890

Shoal Island is a small pile of granite, on the northwest side of St. Joseph Island in the St. Joseph Channel of the St. Mary's River. This light once served commercial shipping that used the St. Joseph Channel, but it has served no major purpose for many years. The wooden two-story dwelling has a square wooden lantern room on top. The windows are boarded up, but it has been freshly painted, and is looking good.
