Resetting Power Management Units - kopmanis

Here's a fun list of ways to reset the Power Management Units on Apple equipment:

iSight-equipped iMacs, G5 and Intel:

  • shutdown the machine
  • remove power cord
  • hold power button while re-inserting power cord

G5 PowerMac:

  • shutdown the machine--do NOT unplug
  • Remove the Metal cover
  • Remove the clear plastic cover
  • remove the middle fan assembly (should slide out easily)
  • locate the PMU reset switch on the motherboard
  • Press the PMU reset
  • Put the clear cover back on and restart the machine to verify things now work
  • DO NOT repeat this procedure more than 3 times before checking with Apple
