Software and Licensing

[edit] Department Supported Machines
The Department of Mathematics relies largely on LSA Licensed software for its departmentally supported machines on all 3 platforms (MacOSX, Linux, Windows XP). In general, machines purchased by the Department or University, to be used by Mathematics faculty and staff, can use LSA licensed software. Personally owned machines are not covered by the LSA license, but may be covered by the ITCS licenses.
[edit] Personal Machines
ITCS offers no-charge or discounted pricing on many popular packages on all 3 major platforms. You can find more information here:
- ITCS Software Licensing and Distribution (Standalone and/or Personal)
- UM Computer Showcase (Personal)
[edit] From LSA Software Licensing: Mathematica, Maple and MATLAB
- None of the three LSA licenses may be used on a personal machine. But Mathematica and Matlab are available for personal use through ITCS. Mathematica is available at no cost as part of the site license but an individual request must be made for the software and license. That request may begin from the ITCS software page on Mathematica:
- As for Matlab, that may be purchased from ITCS for $25 plus the cost of any toolboxes your user may wish to have.
- Again, LSA licenses may not be used on personal machines but Mathematica and Matlab may be used on a personal machine. This personal use is permitted through the terms available from ITCS.
