Letter Template: Introduction to OER to faculty

Dear Dr. X,

My name is (insert name) and I am a (insert year) student here at SI. I am working with the Open.Michigan team (https://open.umich.edu/about/) this semster on a project to convert the SI course materials into an openly accessible format as an open educational resource (http://open.umich.edu/wiki/Open_Educational_Resources). I would like to work with you to make this happen.

Your participation would require a minimal time commitment - only a few hours of your time over the next 14 weeks answering questions about your materials. You also have maximal control over the materials, as they are and will remain yours.

I have attached a permission form for you to sign and return (pdf: https://open.umich.edu/wiki/images/b/b2/U-M_Participants_OER_Permission-General.pdf, online: https://open.umich.edu/oerperm/U-M_Participants_OER_Permission-General.html ). The form will assist you in selecting a license that will allow us to openly publish your materials on the Internet. I will follow up with you early next week regarding the publishing process. If you have any questions regarding the project, the permission form, or anything else, please feel free to contact me. (insert email and/or phone number)

Sincerely,
