I was born and raised in Mumbai, India. My mother had started her jewelry business a few years before I was born. It was for the most part run at home in the living room, and I enjoyed involving myself in her work as much as I could. Moreover, I loved the city life in Mumbai, and I intend on once again living in a big city. I made many life-long friendships in Mumbai that I will always cherish. I spent most of my days hanging out with friends, and didn’t study much. I was very active in my school’s athletic events and I loved playing soccer. I also took many art classes in India, and I enjoyed watching movies. These are still my hobbies that I take up during my summers. My best memories of childhood involve playing soccer with friends and also some of my soccer tournaments.
We decided to move to Michigan when I was 14. We made the move because the college tuition is a lot less for in state students, and also we wanted to eventually settle out here. I visited the US almost every year from a very young age, so the move wasn’t that drastic for me. After studying in India, High School in the US was pretty easy for me. Throughout high school, I focused on science classes, and I had a keen interest on becoming a doctor, however during my freshmen year of college, I gained more insight into where my talents and interests truly lay, which finally made me sure that I could be more successful if I studied business.
As for entrepreneurship, aside from growing up around a family business, I was also introduced to entrepreneurship through TED talks, when a close family friend of mine, Kiran Sethi, gave a TED talk in 2009. She founded her own school in Gujurat, and I was amazed at how it grew over a ten-year span. I visited her in the summer of 2010, and during that visit I was not only amazed by her achievements, but also gained first hand experience from someone who led a regular life, and then one day decided to pursue her true desires and eventually led to a big change in the world. This experience gave me immense respect for entrepreneurs, and expanded my view on possible career pathways for my future.
