My Life Getting to Michigan

My father left his home in Spain to live on his own in Venezuela when he was 18 where he met my mother who had taken a year off from school to deal with the death of her father by traveling around South America. Since birth my father's English has always been very weak so I had grown up speaking Spanish in my house. My father has taught me the true definition of determination. He left his family when he was 18 to live in a foreign country. Having not finished High School and having no money, he started from the very bottom. Upon moving to America he went to night school for his GED and to learn English. He now runs his own Cigar distribution company as well has a Contracting company. His lesson he's taught me is if you try hard enough and don't give up, you can do anything. Since I can remember I have always played soccer. It is my favorite sport and is argueably the most beautiful game in the world. However when I was 14 and trying out for the soccer team I severely sprained my ankle and was unable to play for my schools soccer team. I was then recruited by the football team for my size and since then played football for the rest of my fall seaons in highschool. A few years later I was asked to move up to Varsity Squad early to become a tight end cuz of my speed and height. My dream of becoming an impact player had quickly been taken away when my shoulder was blown out in a tackling drill during our 3rd practice of pre-season. Since sustaining this injury i have undergone 2 shoulder surgerys and am no longer able to throw a football for more than 5 min without the uncomforable feeling of semi-dislocation in my shoulder. My hopes of becoming a college athelete were no more. After my surgeries my father told me that sometimes bad things happen and that the only way to overcome is to move on. So thats what I did. I looked to my skills of creative problem solving and put forth more effort into my school work to hopefully one day become an engineer. I hit the books harder than i ever did before and soon enough was accepted into the Univerisity of Michigan.
