This post has nailed the problem with SOPA protests right on the head: what we witnessed yesterday was the biggest form of slaktivism the world has ever seen. I have been complaining to my friends about SOPA since November and they just thought I was a crazy tech kid who was just complaining, until the past couple of days. Then all of sudden they are asking me about SOPA and they are 'protesting' it by changing their Facebook status or picture...well guess what this article nails it, changing your Facebook picture or sharing a status update does absolutely NOTHING!! The number of people who called their representatives are still in the minority. I have not even seen students at this very "liberal," "politically active" campus do anything about this legislation. We need SOPA to pass then maybe we will get off our lazy butts and do something of value to protest the direction the government is headed: namely taking away the rights of US citizens.
