"Don't be evil" I clearly remember these words when I last visited the headquarters of Google in Silicon Valley. Recently Google had announced some changes for the users where all their information will be collected into one piece. Some think that this is an Evil Plan of Google by violating the privacy of the user. O'Reilly debates that just because Google is collecting data from users, it doesn't mean Google is now Evil. He makes a comparison with Apple, where their manufacturing conditions are inhumane. O'Reilly is not trying to defend Google or trash Apple but he is trying to say that Google is not necessarily evil... yet.
One of the comments that caught my attention is that Apple never said they are not evil. True. It will take some time in the future to see how Google keeps handling its users information and how do they still keep their "Do No Evil" motto especially now in the internet world where no privacy is available. Another article
http://remarkedly.com/2012/01/29/the-real-problem-with-facebooks-timeline/ talks how TIMELINE is a real problem for Facebook users because there is absolutely no privacy. Anyone can easily find now posts that were from three years ago. For many people, this Facebook Timeline is not allowing many people to move on with their lives with past events right in one click access for anyone in the world.
So I guess the future debate would hold on how much privacy are the users losing on the internet. Will Google turn to be a Do Evil company. Will Apple keep going with their inhumane conditions.
