Keywords are user defined texts which can be a word or a phrase entered in a search engine. When the user executes the query using the keywords, search engines uses proprietary algorithm to display relevant webpages and ads in the search window. Keywords are the most fundamental element of Search Engine Optimization or Search Engine Marketing campaigns. As a marketer you have to know what keywords and key phrases are used by your target audience. Most search engines provide mechanisms to analyze the performance of different keywords. For example, Google provides Keyword Tool in Google Adwords to generate keyword ideas.
