This 28-foot tall, wood frame, pyramidal tower was originally built as a fog bell tower, with a light atop a nearby pole. In 1901 the tower was modified to accommodate a light. Intended only as a temporary measure until another light tower could be built, it is still home to the Fort Washington light signal today.
