Built: 1868, 1934
These lights sit on a small peninsula at the suthern tip of South Fox Island, which is located in lake Michigan, 26 miles west of Charlevoix, Michigan. The old South Fox Island Light (on the right in photo) was built in 1868 and consists of a rectangular brick keeper's house with an attached 30 foot tall square brick light tower. It is now boarded up and abandoned. The newer 60 foot tall steel skeletal tower was built closer to the shoreline in 1934 (on the left in photo). It has an enclosed round stairway made of steel plates that leads to the 10-sided lantern room at the top. A nearby keeper's house is boarded up. This tower is inactive as well.
