Located on top of a high rocky bluff, this 6.9 m (23 ft) tall tower shines 22.3 m (73 ft) above sea level. It has a fourth order lens that reaches 13.4 nautical miles out to sea along the western coast of Norway. The Vikings traveled from this site in 869, eventually discovering the Shetland Islands and Iceland. When herring was discovered along this dangerous coastline, the increased shipping traffic, along with severe winter storms prompted the need for a lighthouse to be built here. <br clear=all> | Located on top of a high rocky bluff, this 6.9 m (23 ft) tall tower shines 22.3 m (73 ft) above sea level.
