Built: 1874

Automated: 1958

This lighthouse, which sits on the picturesque shores of the Pictures Rocks National Lakeshore on Lake Superior, was built to fill in the lighthouse gap along the heavily used coast between Whitefish Point and Grand Island, the dangers of which can be seen by the century old shipwrecks which have washed ashore and now lay half buried in the wet sand. The park service offers tours during the summer.
