Fastnet Rock Light

This light, which took over seven years to build, is an amazing example of craftsmanship. It replaced the first light on the Rock built in 1854. Fastnet Rock is some four-and-a-half miles from the mainland. It is the most famous of all Irish lighthouses. It is the first light seen by all ships inbound from the Americas, and the last light seen by thousands of emigrants heading to the New World. The granite tower rises nearly 200 feet from its base.
