Rattray Head Light

Located on the northeast coast of Scotland, this 74 foot tall, white conical tower sits on a 46 foot tall conical foundation making the total height of the lighthouse 120 feet above the rock. The foundation houses the foghorn and engine room. It was the first time that a first-class siren fog signal had been installed in a rock lighthouse. It was designed by David Alan Stevenson. At high tide, the water rises to a depth of 7 feet up the foundation, but it is possible to walk ashore when the tide is out. Large sand dunes mark the shore next to the lighthouse. The light is still active.
