Goose Rocks Light
From lighthouses
North Haven, Maine
Built: 1890
Automated: 1963
This 51 foot tall caisson-type or "sparkplug" style, cast iron tower marks the east entrance to the Fox Islands Thorofare, a busy waterway between Vinalhaven and North Haven islands in Penobscot Bay. It originally housed a fourth-order Fresnel lens that was replaced with a modern optic when the light was automated. The inside of the tower contains three levels that served as living quarters for the keepers, as well as a watch room and a storage area.
