Lubec, Maine

Built: 1858

Automated: 1988

This red and white striped lighthouse marks the southwest entrance to Quoddy Channel, and is located on the easternmost point in the continental United States. The conical brick tower is 49 feet tall and houses a third order Fresnel lens. The first rubblestone lighthouse was built on the site in 1808 and may have been rebuilt in 1853, but was replaced shortly thereafter with the current tower and one and a half story Victorian wood frame keeper's dwelling. The lighthouse is now part of Quoddy Head State Park, and the grounds are open to the public.
