Gilbert's Cove Light
From lighthouses
Gilberts Cove, Nova Scotia
Built: 1904
Automated: 1965
Decommissioned: 1975
This 11 meters (36 feet) tall square wooden dwelling with its roof-mounted lanternroom sits on St. Mary's Bay between Digby Neck and its extension in Long and Brier islands. After it was discontinued, vandalism began to take its toll, but the Gilbert's Cove and District Historical Society came to the rescue. They have renovated the structure, including a museum and gift shop, and turned the surrounding grounds into a beautiful picnic area.
