This 1.5-story, 25-foot tall wooden cottage sits on a screwpile foundation which is located on a shoal 1.25 miles east of Thomas Point at the entrance to South River. It was originally equipped with a 4th order Fresnel lens with a focal plane 43 feet above the water. It was the last manned lighthouse on the Chesapeake Bay. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1999, and in 2004 the Chesapeake Chapter of USLHS and the Annapolis Maritime Museum took over its management.
