Course Audit of AmCult 201
Course Content
- 13 powerpoints with a lot of images
Copyright Concerns
- LOTS of un-attributed images.
- most will be PD-OLD or PD-INEL, but we still need to prove that by having provenance information for them.
* tentative agreement with this point; most of the images look old, but I would want more sourcing, because they may just seem old.
- only a couple that will need to be removed (eg: Jim Carey and "The Mask")
Privacy Concerns
- Nothing.
Technical Concerns
- 201.First.09.ppt, first slide has a big blank square, needs to be fixed
- happens in a couple other ppts as well
- Little Women: lots of QuickTime errors, will need to have those images re-added to the file.
* As a triage question, should we just remove QT files in general. They seem to cause a lot of problems.
Level of Editing Needed
- Lots of editing to add in all of the provenance/source information
Level of Publishing Needed
- Nothing out of the ordinary, I don't believe.
I think that we need to have a general discussion on super image heavy courses like this. I think that if we added more contextual materials, we could get a lot more out of these. Not to open up an existential argument though...
dScribe Method Recommendation
- Student dScribe who is in the course, taking notes on the provenance of images while the prof is giving the lecture.
Training Requirements
- Train dScribe on very very basic copyright and mostly just on what is the important provenance information
Next Steps
- Nothing right now.
Perhaps we could work with the prof on the outset on a course like this one. She seems interested in making her materials open, and if she did a bit on the creation side of the opening, we could get a lot more out of this.
