Open.Michigan OER Team - 2009 vision session suggested topics

This is a page for building an agenda for the Open.Michigan vision session. We've got a lot to cover, so let's start brainstorming topics to cover here. We may wind up with diverse topics meant for other meetings, but at least we can start to sift through all the ideas. We'll try to prioritize them to help guide discussion.

  • 1 year plan, 5 year plan
  • work with SPO
  • work with Copyright Office
  • How can Open.Michigan position itself, institutionally, to deliver the best service to the University and its extended audience?
  • We've been working with ccLearn, MIT, and OER Africa on a number of projects - should we be involved with other groups?
  • Open.Michigan - what's the status of this portfolio & community?
    • what are the products and services of Open.Michigan (consulting, training, hosting, assessment, implementation, etc.)
    • who do we market them too?
    • where does open source software fit in?
    • who do we bring into the discussion of OSS on campus? who would fund work in this area?
  • where Health OER grant and international collaborations fit into regular/daily tasks
  • Med School vision after M1/M2 is done
    • how do we get faculty to use this content?
    • what will we do with lecture capture videos?
  • Cross institutional vision after M1/M2 content is done
    • get U-M health sciences schools to build, use, and maintain same pool of "open" content for use in basic science curriculum (anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, etc.)
  • evolution of dScribe - scalability? desired process/workflow changes?
    • how do we build a student group interested in "openness"?
  • OERca2 - where does OERca2 start/end? (seems like other mtg but something that we should at least touch upon)
  • Platform discussion - what do we want? what's possible? (this is likely for a stand alone CMS mtg)
    • the platform would probably include all the content for Open.Michigan, not just our resources.
  • What would a "Center for Open" look like?
    • Look for U-M organizations to designate as "OER Centers": School of Information, CRLT, Library, DMC, LRC (Med School)
    • Who are campus spokespersons for these "OER Centers"?
  • What could we publish, quickly, in the open education discipline? Do we need to publish to become more credible?
  • Evaluation of OER / information resources
    • Who is using our content, how, and why?
  • Events
    • OpenEverything event scheduled for October 31st
