Join us for some great late-summer paddling in upper Ontario – none of the rafts, all of the fun. We’ll paddle on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and a short day Sunday. The rivers we plan to paddle on this trip are the Lower Madawaska River and the Ottawa River, class II to IV (optional).
Participants must have whitewater skills and experience, and are expected to provide all of their own gear which includes but is not limited to: a whitewater boat with adequate flotation, life jacket, helmet, paddle, spray skirt for kayaks, wet or dry suit for the cold water we may encounter, and river safety knowledge. The water may be cold and the air may be cold too, so cold temperature preparedness is essential.
“Whitewater skills and experience” means you can:
Catch eddies, peel out, and ferry in class II-III whitewater
Safely swim in rapids
Attempt self-rescue (bow rescues or a roll)
We'll be staying at a “whitewater resort” near the Ottawa River on Thursday-Saturday nights, which has a range of accommodations including camping, small sleeping cabins, and larger cottages with kitchens. If there are enough confirmed participants who are interested I can book accommodation for the whole group - if you would like to share a cottage, please let me know by next Thursday the 21st. You must contact Todd Leigh (517-712-9083, toddleigh ‘at’ hotmail ‘dot’ com) through email or phone to come on this trip.
