NYMG: Feminist Game Studies Journal
From DigitalRhetoricCollaborative
NYMG: Feminist Games Studies Journal (ISSN 2578-4315) is the first Feminist Game Studies middle-state journal. The journal, which released its first issue in April 2018, is part of the larger work of Not Your Mama’s Gamer, a website launched by Samantha Blackmon and Alex Layne in 2011 to promote feminist interrogation of games with the games community. NYMG focuses on publishing peer-reviewed content on feminist games scholarship, including textual engagement, criticism, theory, and research, as well as multimedia presentations, as well as critical book and game reviews.
NYMG prioritizes publishing multimodal content that is traditionally viewed as non-academic or even anti-academic in nature, such as games, comics, critical lens play, and videos. Experimentation is largely encouraged, and the editorial review process has been designed to be support such experimentation by fostering ongoing dialogue between editors and authors.
While the journal aims to publish issues according to Western seasons (Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer), there is no strict timelines for issue release and authors are encouraged to propose a project at any time as a text, web-text, video, or game.
The journal’s editor-in-chief is Samantha Blackmon.
