Black Head Light
From lighthouses
Murroogh, Co Clare, Ireland
Built: 1936
This squat, square lighthouse sits alone on the southern coast of Galway Bay guiding ships in and out of the port of Galway. In a very unusual arrangement, it was paid for and maintained by the Galway Harbour Commissioners until 1955, when it was taken over by the Irish Lights. The tower is 28 feet high and is 67 feet above high water.
