Charlotte-Genesee Light

This light is located on Lake Ontario at the mouth of the Genesee River. It is the second-oldest lighthouse on the Great Lakes. The original keeper's quarters was a two room limestone cottage which sat beside the 40 foot high octagonal limestone tower. The current brick dwelling replaced the cottage in 1863. In 1965 students at the nearby Charlotte High School were instrumental in saving the lighthouse from demolition and it now houses a museum run by the Charlotte-Genesee Lighthouse Historical Society.
