Mackinaw City, Michigan

Built: 1869

Decommissioned: 1906

This light, 2 miles west of Fort Michilimackinac, became a private residence soon after it was decommissioned in 1906. The lantern room had been removed prior to its being sold. The naked tower remained that way until the spring of 2009. The private residence was put up for sale in 2005, and purchased by Emmet County in 2008. A replica lantern room, fabricated by Moran Iron Works in Onaway, was placed atop the lighthouse on April 23, 2009, and on May 30, 2009 the light was relit. Plans are underway to turn the site into a museum.
