Point Loma Light (New)

Built to replace the ineffective lighthouse on the summit of Point Loma, this 70 foot tall, steel skeletal tower is the only one of its kind on the west coast. It has a focal plane of 88 feet, and is much less likely to be fogged in than the old light. It is located on the seaward side of Point Loma, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The light originally housed a 3rd order Fresnel lens, which is on display at the Old Point Loma Light nearby at the Cabrillo National Monument. This light is still active and is home to Coast Guard personnel in the area.
