Point Reyes Light

This cast iron tower sits on a finger of land 250 feet above the water. It is the point along the coast where southbound vessels turn on their way to the Golden Gate. This remote site is one of the foggiest and windiest points on the west coast. To reach the lighthouse, you drive across open uplands and through large cattle ranches that date back to the 1850's. Then once you arrive, there are 308 steps down to the lighthouse. But the hard part is the 308 steps back up. The site is now part of the Point Reyes National Seashore and is open to the public.
