Rock of Ages Light

This still active light marks the dangerous rocks off the southwest tip of Isle Royale in Lake Superior. The cylindrical "bottle shaped" steel and concrete tower is 117 feet tall and sits on a large steel caisson, giving it a focal plane of 130 feet. A temporary third order lens was originally placed in the tower until 1910, when the permanent second order Fresnel lens was installed. That second order lens is now on exhibit at the Windigo Information Station of Isle Royale National Park.
