San Luis Obispo Light

This light is located on the San Luis Head, overlooking the Pacific Ocean and marks the western side of San Luis Obispo Bay. Its 40 foot tall square tower is attached to the corner of a two story, Victorian style wood frame dwelling and has a focal plane of 116 feet. The light has not been active since 1969, when two rotating aero beacons were placed on a low tower on the point. The 4th order Fresnel lens was removed from the tower in 1976 and moved to a museum and then a library. Since 1995 the Point San Luis Lighthouse Keepers have done extensive renovations on the lighthouse and surrounding buildings and grounds. Also, the original Fresnel lens has been returned and is on display in one of the nearby buildings.
