Sandy Point Shoal Light

Automated: 1963
This 2.5-story, octagonal, 51-foot tall red brick dwelling with white roof sits on a caisson which is offshore 1,000 yards from Sandy Point State Park and 1.5 miles north of the western end of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. When the original Fresnel lens was destroyed by vandals in 1979, a modern acrylic lens was installed. Major restoration was done by the Coast Guard in 1988-90, and the light was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.
