Tarbat Ness Light

This light is located at the northern entrance to Moray Firth and the southern entrance to Dornoch Firth. It sits at the tip of Tarbat Ness Peninsula which is mostly farmland. This white conical tower with its two distinctive red bands is 135 feet tall (third tallest light in Scotland). It has a focal plane 174 feet above sea level and a range of 24 nautical miles. It was designed by Robert Stevenson and is still active today. According to Highland folklore this site was used as a meeting place for witches covens and prior to that it used to be a Roman Fort.
