Wood Islands Light
From lighthouses
Wood Islands, Prince Edward Island
Built: 1876
Automated: 1980
This light consists of a 16 meter (52 foot) square pyramidal wood tower with lantern and gallery, rising from one end of a 1-1/2 story wood keeper's house. The keeper's house is used as a crafts shop and visitor center. In March of 2008 the lighthouse was relocated 70 meters (230 feet) inland to avoid beach erosion. This light is located on the southeast shore of PEI adjacent to the ferry terminal carrying auto traffic from Nova Scotia.
