DSpace notes
From openmichigan
Our talk with Jim Ottaviani enlightened us about Deep Blue, its use of DSpace, and DSpace in general. We learned that Deep Blue is using BlueStream as a host for streaming video. It's not using any of BlueStream's video processing capabilities, only its streaming functionality. Deep Blue holds a high-res version of the video (preservation) while BlueStream dishes out the streaming quality video (presentation). This appears to be a happy couple, but they have no service agreement for now.
Our testing of DSpace will try to determine if we can set up appropriate hierarchies for the content, if we can set up a more efficient method for depositing "records," and how malleable the metadata fields can be. We are also planning to talk with the DSpace developers at MIT when we go.
