[edit] Create

  1. Set initial action to "Create"
  2. Look at other examples of the object you are replacing to ensure that you understand the object and have a number of viewpoints on how to create something new as a replacement. (E.g. If it is a graph, look at similiar graphs to make sure that you have the proper axes and values)
  3. Create the RCO (replacement content object) - **Make sure that when creating a replacement you focus on the essential instructional components of the object. The idea is to create a replacement that is more clear, more informative, and of higher quality than the original object in the course material.**
  4. Upload your RCO to OERca (see OERca Instructions) and add the appropriate metadata (see metadata instructions) for that replacement
  5. In the Status tab for the replacement object in OERca, select Yes for "Ask Instructor if replacement is suitable"
  6. Email instructor to approve the replacement CO (with link to ASK form)
  7. Set the final action to "Create"
  8. Mark CO as cleared

[edit] Retain: Copyright Analysis

  1. Set initial action to "Retain: Copyright Analysis"
  2. Using OERca, write out your justification or rationale for retaining the CO and send it to the dScribe 2. If you believe we should claim a fair use, make sure to include as much reasoning (see the four factors test for fair use, also found in IP Resources) as possible. If you believe that the CO in question does not contain creative expression and does not merit copyright protection, be sure to include your rationale.
  3. When the dScribe 2 has approved your recommended action, set the final action to "Retain: Copyright Analysis"
  4. Mark CO as cleared

[edit] Retain: Public Domain

  1. Set initial action to "Retain: Public Domain"
  2. Using OERca, write out your justification for retaining the CO and send it to the dScribe 2 (see public domain guidelines, also found in IP Resources)
  3. When the dScribe 2 has approved your recommended action, set the final action to "Retain: Public Domain"
  4. Mark CO as cleared

[edit] Retain: Permission

  1. Set initial action to "Retain: Permission"
  2. Using OERca, write out your justification for retaining the CO and send it to the dScribe 2 (permission may come from the instructor, a student, a license attached to the CO, etc.)
  3. When the dScribe 2 has approved your recommended action, set the final action to "Retain: Permission"
  4. Mark CO as cleared

[edit] Permission

  1. Set the initial action to "Permission"
  2. Fill in all of the required fields in the permission form (don't worry if you are missing data for a field - just put in some random letters or numbers as a placeholder) and send it to the dScribe 2
  3. After the dScribe 2 approves your form, he or she will send a note to the person to obtain permission. The dScribe 2 may ask that you send a permission letter.
  4. Upon receiving permission, recommend a new action for the CO - Retain: Permission and send this to the dScribe 2
  5. After the dScribe 2 approves this recommended action, set the final action to Retain: Permission
  6. Mark the CO as cleared
