[edit] Design Jam 1 - Global Health

Thursday March 25

2, 2.5 Hours

How to frame:

Situate in the context of what people do and care about and know of. Right now, you hand out band-aids and go on medical tourism adventures. Your experience isn't tied to your long term educational and professional experience. Ever wonder how you can have a lasting long-term impact in the world of health education and global health? Looking for a meaningful project?

We have a real opportunity at the University of Michigan have a lasting long-term impact on global health through the creation and dissemination of open health education resources. The University of Michigan Medical School and other schools and colleges have been involved in this effort. The Hewlett Foundation has helped us bring this opportunity to he continent of Africa - supporting the effort to promote access to high quality learning materials and to build meaningful partnerships among health care professionals and students. The challenges in this space are huge; and our group alone can't do it. As such, want to bring together people who can help us think about infrastructures that we can use to bring real change and meaningful exchange of ideas and resources.

On March 25, Open.Michigan Initiative is sponsoring a design jam to discuss the following idea: Can we build a shared social network platform that addresses global health education needs and increases the sharing of health education resources?

We will bring together students from UMMS, SI, Public Policy, etc. to ____.

    • Are you a medical student who’s participated in medical tourism where you ____? Build on your international knowledge by…. And create a lasting long-term impact?
    • Are you an SI student who’s looking for a meaningful, tangible project to apply the concepts you’ve learned in your courses? Join us in…
