A number of people are working to create short videos of UM faculty, deans, students, etc. sharing thoughts on an OER initiative at the University of Michigan. These video vignettes are initially for use on the Open.Michigan website that we are beta releasing April 15. The goal is to demonstrate the real interest people have in their open projects across campus and to help people better understand what we really mean by "Open Michigan" at the University of Michigan.
The interviews can be long or short, but the modal type for the first release should probably be the easiest for us to create. For me (Joseph) that starts with a few questions I'll ask the interviewee to think about ahead of time, then a few stimulus questions as we record 20-30 minutes or so of talking about the questions and whatever the particular perspective and passion of the interviewee is. Then I'll edit those down to around 3-10 minutes.
Below is a set of questions that we would like everyone to contribute to and use as we go along. They are to help us come up with ideas for the interviews, and to show to the interviewees ahead of time so they can be thinking about them. These can be used in a scripted interview style, or as thought pieces for a more freely structured interview.

- Who are you and what is your role/what do you do at the university?
- What have you been working on in the arena of open content, open source, open educational resources, open publishing, open access, open standards, etc. at the university? (please add to this list of 'open' things)
- Why are open initiatives important? ...to you?
- Why do you think the University of Michigan is particularly (maybe uniquely) well placed to engage in open activities like OER, etc?
- What are the advantages of open educational resources (or open whatever) to the University of Michigan scholarly community? to the state of Michigan? to the world?
- How does thinking about open practices change the way you think about the university? about education? about your work?
- What opportunities and benefits do you think an OCW initiative at UM might bring to faculty, students, prospective students, people around the world?
- How do you participate in the Open community already? Do you blog? Share YouTube videos? post materials to resource sharing sites? etc.
- Where did you first hear about the concept of Open Course Ware or Open Educational Resources?
- What is your impression of the Open Educational Resources movement?
- What would you hope to see in an OCW environment here?
